Savory smoked jackfruit recipe

Jackfruit has such a delicious and fresh taste, but combine it with drying and the smoky taste and it will be irrisitable!

Ingredients

  • 1 jackfruit sliced into thin strips
  • 1 cup wood chips
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 red onion diced
  • 1 red bell pepper diced
  • 1 green bell pepper diced
  • 1 jalapeño pepper diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  • Soak wood chips in water for 30 minutes.
  • Add wood chips to your smoker and preheat to 225 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • In a large bowl, mix jackfruit strips, olive oil, red onion, bell peppers, jalapeño pepper, garlic, cumin powder, chili powder, smoked paprika, dried oregano, and salt.
  • Transfer the mixture to the smoker and smoke for 2 hours.
  • In a small saucepan, mix tomato sauce and water.
  • Remove the smoked jackfruit from the smoker and let cool for 10 minutes before adding it to the tomato sauce mixture.
  • Serve on whole-wheat buns or tortillas and enjoy!
